               ?Josephine Middleton ?

Here are some of my questions about the JM Slover Bible and documents it contained.  I also have State, County and Poll tax receipts dating back to 1883 with names on them from the JM Slover Bible.  I also have several old pictures that I do not know who they are.  I have the same first picture that is on
www.eugeneleeslover.com website.

1.  Is I S Slover the same person as Ira (Simon, Seeman, and/or Seaman) Slover?
2.  Is Sarah J Slover the same person as ( Sarah J. Slover, Sara Joan Slover, Mrs. Joan Slover,
Sara Joan M. Slover, Josephine Middleton)? I have same picture that Gene Slover labels
Josephine Middleton whose name is not mentioned anywhere in the JM Slover Bible.

www.eugeneleeslover.com
3.  Is John (Morris, Marshall) Slover  the same person as the original owner of the JM Slover Bible
4.  Should Martha Ellen Russelle's name be spelled with a final "e" on the websites?
5.  My JM Slover Bible Birth page indicates Mrs. (Sarah?) Joan Slover had three children including
Wille Earnest Slover April 19, 1895 that Gene Slover does not mention at the end of his second
e-mail.  Could there have been a third child of Mrs. (Sarah) Joan Slover/Josephine Middleton?
6. How do you archive information in found in JM Slover Bible that is new or substantiates other
    information?
7. Am I and my daughter elgible to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution
    through John Slover?
8. I also have an Obit. for Rebecca Elizabeth (Slover?) Culwell.  Was she the wife of Dr. George S.
   Slover?
9. Am I  related to Judge James Slover of Slover Park in Independence, Mo.?
10. Am I related to "Davey" David Crockett?

I actually have many more questions, but don't think this e-mail can handle them.  Thanks for taking an interest and checking these questions out for me.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.  Martha Slover Price.

Martha,
Thanks for sharing the pictures. I will try to answer some of the questions at the bottom of the email. Further information/responses will depend on what information I can come up with after further review of the pictures.

1.  Is I S Slover the same person as Ira (Simon, Seeman, and/or Seaman) Slover? - I would say that is a high probability. They have the same death date, but I didn't see a location (on first glance) that would confirm that.

3.  Is John (Morris, Marshall) Slover  the same person as the original owner of the JM Slover Bible - I don't know of any way to determine that information as I don't know who to original owner of the bible is.

4.  Should Martha Ellen Russelle's name be spelled with a final "e" on the websites? - Unknown as I don't have her name in my database. Is she the wife of John Morris Slover Jr. born in TX in 1864 (I show 1865 - but I could be wrong)?

6. How do you archive information in found in JM Slover Bible that is new or substantiates other
information? - I don't know of any way to archive the information except for sharing like you have here. You might want to contact your nearest LDS Family History center. They do accept Family Histories to archive in Salt Lake, but I'm uncertain if they accept family bibles. They have launched a massive project to digitize their microfilms, so they may accept this also.

7. Am I and my daughter eligible to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution
through John Slover? - There are really 2 answers to this one. If you are a direct descendant of John Slover, yes you are eligible. The other answer is that you have to document your descent and have it verified by the DAR. They DAR does offer help and direction in doing this. Your son would also be eligible for the SAR using the same information.

9. Am I  related to Judge James Slover of Slover Park in Independence, Mo.? - I have never heard of this person and am curious about his history.

10. Am I related to "Davey" David Crockett? - I have never heard of Slover's being connected to Mr. Crockett. I would take this story with a big grain of salt.

Regards,
Sammy Williams .

Dear Gene,

I went on your website and discovered the JMSlover Bible I have contained the first of your pictures and similar ones to your other pictures.  I have a copy of the exact picture of Grandy and Mema, John Marshall Slover, Josephine Middleton.

Please contact me if you receive this e-mail.  I will send attachments of these pics to you in this e-mail.  Would love to compare pics.  I do not know who the pictures are in most cases.  Thanks.  Martha Slover Price  price.martha@gmail.com

Gene,  Thanks for your info.  I understand now that the first two listings on the birth page of the Bible are the births for JohnM Slover and Martha Ellen Russell.  My Bible is probably therefore the family Bible for John Morris Slover which you refer to as John Marshall Slover.  There is no writings or items associated with Josephine Middleton that I can tell in the items I have.  I have the Obituary bookmark for Ira S. Slover which states he died in 1909 which the date matches exactly to that on the Samuel M Slover and Emeline Chote document I sent you.  The articles I send you tonight relate to a marriage of John M. Slover to Sarah Joan Slover.  I will send them in groups in different e-mails so you will know what envelops they were in.  One envelope was mailed to JM Slover from Henry L. Slover.  I will send you e-mail sites which give their names in the 1920 Wise County census.  Also, their names in the East Bridgeport Cemetary.  Also, one of the documents states that Sarah Joan Slover states that Eva Rebecca was her child probably married with Roberts as the last name.  What do you make of this?  Lots of mysteries to solve!

Thanks for sending my name on to Millie and Cathy.  It's really been awesome finding all the things out.  Did you know my father, George H. Slover?  Would we be considered 2nd cousins?  I seem to ask alot of questions.  It's really nice to have such a wonderful opportunity to ask questions from someone so close to my father.  Thanks for your patience.  I will probably send 3 emails to get all the pics to you.  Martha

Gene,
This was so exciting to me to actually find on the web by chance the same exact picture that I have.  It was so unbelieveable.  OK.  I will share some of the things I have.  First,  this Bible has not been opened until I restored it for 35 years because it was crumbling and I could not touch it. My father,  George H. Slover, died in 1971.  He was in the US Air Force.  We traveled a lot and I was therefore, not exposed to a lot of relatives.  His one wish was to have the family Bible, but he had never discussed what was in the Bible.  So,  I was in a Bible study at my church and a friend recommended a book restorer.  So I had it restored and the family tree was in the middle of the Bible.  The last written input of the Bible was in 1959 when my grandmother Meda Hobbs Slover wrote in my grandfather' death, Thomas Jackson Slover.  There are several articles that seem to connect all of the geneology and I have been able to document through web census the marriage of JM Slover to ME. Russelle which was the marriage input for this Bible.  From the documents, obituaries  I surmise only what I show in parentheses.

Marriage Bible of JM Slover to ME Russelle at the Residence of RY Russelle on Nov. 19, 1882

        Samuel M Slover's Family
Samuel  Slover (March 5, 1811)-Emeline Chote(Sept. 28, 1816)

  James W. Slover (Mar. 1, 1833)
  Sanders Slover (Nov. 17,1835)
  Henderson L. Slover (May 8, 1836)
Mary Jane slover (Jan. 25, 1838)
Ira Simon Slover (March 14, 1840)
John Marion Slover (Sept. 1, 1841)********  Slover Bible marriage!  I think
William Alfred Slover (Sept. 27, 1846)
Martha Ellen Slover (Jan 17, 1852)
  George Washington Slover ( Jan. 19, 1854)

JM Slover-ME. Russelle*****(Handwriting in ink same as 6 children listed in birth page)
       John Morris Slover (Aug.22, 1864)
       Martha Ellen Slover (Dec. 10,1862)
Ira Young Slover (Mar. 20, 1884)
Thomas Jackson Slover (Jan. 23, 1886)   *****my grandfather, we called him "Grandy"
George Edgar Slover (April 26, 1888)
Henry Lee Slover (Jan. 23, 1891)

----------Other children listed in pencil with poor grammar, spelling
                    Joan Slover (Oct. 8, 1874)
                    Vera May Slover(Nov. 28, 1893)
Willie Earnest Slover  (April 19, 1895)
Eva Rebecca Slover (Sept. 7, 1896)

     Deaths Listed:

Thomas Jackson Slover( May 31, 1959)

         Dr. George S. Slover (Dec. 29, 1942)

Any name in italix I have a handwritten article or something attached to that person in the Bible

Thomas Jackson Slover-Meda Hobbs Slover *******my "Grandy" and "Mema"
Several documents for Bridgeport Texas and Lamesa , Texas

From what I see,  I think your John Marshall Slover is my John Marion Slover which is listed in my Bible only as JM Slover and I believe I have signature documents for both JM Slover.

I live north of Houston, Texas in the Woodlands.  Hope this helps.  Martha Slover Price
