USS North Carolina BB-55

"The Showboat"

The USS North Carolina logged over 300,000 miles and participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific during World War II.  In the Battle of the Eastern Solomon Islands, her anti-aircraft barrage helped save the carrier Enterprise, establishing the primary role of the fast battleship as protector of aircraft carriers.

She was the most decorated US Battleship of World War II, earning 15 Battle Stars.

Today the Battleship North Carolina stands with quiet dignity and majesty across the river from downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.  Visitors are welcome to walk her decks and envision daily life as well as fierce combat her crew faced in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.  USS North Carolina Website
